<#EveryDayisEarthDay Challenge>

“Climate change is real. It is happening right now (Leonardo Di Caprio).” Climate change has become the conversation topic as the Earth gets hotter and the environment is destroyed every day. Thus, a greater interest in climate issues is needed along with active actions. Recognizing the necessity and being interested in climate issues, Jina Jeon (2022-1 Allen Int’l House RA, '21) designed a program titled “<#EveryDayisEarthDay Challenge.>”

On April 5th, the program was conducted with Jina RA and 17 Allen RC students via ZOOM meeting. There were several sessions from watching lectures to discussion to participating in the challenge on Instagram. Firstly, RC students watched three TED lectures about an action plan for solving the climate crisis, how to make the radical climate action the new normal and how small countries can make a big impact on climate change. Three lectures dealt with similar but different depths of content that students, moving into the breakout rooms, discussed their feeling after watching the lectures and agonized over an action they can postpone the climate change as a college student. After the peer-discussion session, they all came back to the main session and discussed the questions prepared by the RA. The questions are as follows: There are so many eco-friendly solutions out there in the world, and so many actions we can take for the environment but why are we still having trouble solving climate change, what can we do for the Earth as college students, what do you think about the relationship between inequity among different countries and the climate change? Following the heated discussion, students participated in the challenge by cutting off the strap of their masks and sharing their acts on Instagram.

The program was not only a lecture but a real challenge that enabled students to think about climate change from different viewpoints and could participate in the challenge for real. It was a meaningful program, remembering and commemorating the day.
